On election day Tuesday, November 8, 2006 we as Americans failed our troops.
We failed to elect the party that supports them and stands firmly behind them.
This among other things is what really bothers me the most. It sickens me that the American people voted against letting our troops finish the job they so desperately want to do.
Americans serving in the military are in my opinion, a cut above the rest of us.
I never served in the military, but I have such strong admiration for these heroes.
They are better and stronger people than I am, and they deserve to have our unwavering support. This means supporting their mission. You can’t do one without doing the other.
They are not mutually exclusive..
The American people voted for the party that has compared our troops to the Nazi’s
They chose the party that believes the troops terrorize Iraqi women and children in the dead of night.
They chose the party that believes the torture chambers of Saddam Hussein have been reopened under new management---American management.
The Democrat party loathes the military. Rush Limbaugh has said that the dems are actively invested in the defeat of our country. They are not patriots. Yet we put them back in charge in a time of war.
I am 41 years old and I am ashamed of the generation that I live in.
We are soft and weak. We don’t know what it is like to go through difficult times.
In this time of war we are able to go about our lives as if nothing of consequence is happening anywhere in the world.
Past generations know what it’s like to go through difficult and challenging times.
It has been said that the World War 2 generation was this country’s greatest generation.
I can’t say that I would disagree with that. But if they were the greatest generation, then our generation is the worst.
Some say that Iraq is a disaster and that we are bogged down and losing the war.
They are squeamish and spineless because we have lost 2500 of our troops.
There were battles in wars past when we lost thousands, even as many as 10,000 or more in a single battle.
If this generation were alive and in charge back then we would all be speaking German right now.
We are not losing the war in Iraq. The fact is, we have already won the war. Now, we are trying to keep the peace. Hussein’s regime has been removed, the Iraqi’s have had free elections. They now have a constitution in place. In fact, they were able to make their constitution much faster than this country did.
This war is not a failure. This war is the most massive military victory in our nations history.
We have freed 50,000,00 million people and have lost only 2,500 of our troops.
Don’t get me wrong, every single one of their lives is precious, but when you look at it in context of previous wars our losses are amazingly minimal.
And the troops want to be there! Reenlistments are at record highs.
And Hussein did have weapons of mass destruction. Everyone in the world knew he had WMD’s. We found WMD’s and the rest of them were moved most likely to Syria.
Some evidence even suggests that the Russians helped move them to Syria.
The problem is, the Bush Administration haven’t defended themselves by bringing this information to the public’s attention.
Republicans have really let us conservatives down during the last few years, and while they deserved to be punished for their failures, our troops did not.
Republicans have been spending our money like drunken sailors and many people now believe that the Republican party is the party of big government, and as Rush has said, “Who can blame them?”
Republicans were also too late on the issue of illegal immigration. If they would have passed legislation a long time ago to build a fence, they would have won on election day.
But for all of their failures, if for no other reason, we should have turned out in droves and voted Republican for the sake of the troops who are losing their lives to protect us and our freedom.
It’s really difficult to be optimistic in times like this, but I was listening to El Rushbo the day following the election. I was feeling really despondent and discouraged. I felt like we had been hit by terrorists again. But something happened. Rush’s optimism and enthusiasm is absolutely and totally infectious. I simply can’t stay down and discouraged when there is so much to be optimistic about.
Yes, we did lose the election, but the races were very close. Razor thin close.
And when you look at the election through the prism and context of the history of the past mid term elections when the president is in his 6th year, we didn’t lose anywhere near the amount that past presidents have lost.
Even the great Ronald Reagan lost many more seats than we did in this election.
Another thing to be optimistic about is that 54 of the democrats who were elected campaigned as conservatives.
You have to be conservative to get elected in most of America.
America did not embrace the democrats by any stretch of the imagination.
They didn’t win the election, we lost.
I heard Bill Clinton say that the reason the republicans are in trouble is because of all of their spending and support of big government. It pains me to admit it but he’s right.
I heard John McCain say that the reason we lost is because we abandoned our conservative philosophy, and once again it pains me to admit it but he is right too.
Now if these jokers understand it, why don’t the republicans understand it?
We can easily win back the house and senate if the Republicans will one again embrace the conservative agenda and start educating people again why conservatism works.
This country is hungry for conservative leadership.
As Rush has said, there is no conservative leadership among those we have elected.
There are no Ronald Reagans or Newt Gingrich’s in our party anymore.
We need someone to step up and inspire people like Reagan did.
Ronald Reagan is the reason many of us are conservatives. He, along with Rush Limbaugh are heroes of mine, and I am doggone proud to say it.
Rush Limbaugh is THE conservative leader of our time. It’s time that some of our elected officials step up to the plate and be conservative leaders.
Republicans simply don’t know how to lead.
When we won the majority in the house and senate back in 2004, they briefly took on the role of leaders, but that was short lived and they reverted to acting and governing like they were the party in the minority.
Not only is it time for our leaders to take stock of themselves, but we all need to look at ourselves in the mirror and ask ourselves what we could have done to win this election, especially you losers that didn’t get out and vote.
There are a number of things that we cold have done and can do in future elections.
1. Prayerfully support our elected officials.
2. Contribute financially to their campaigns.
3. Contribute our time by canvassing neighborhoods and making phone calls.
4. Run for office ourselves.
And we need to hold our leaders feet to the fire. We need to remind them who they are working for. We need to remind them that it is us, who got them elected and it is us that they are beholden to.
We need to hold the president’s feet to the fire and let him know that in no uncertain terms that we will NOT allow amnesty for any illegal aliens, and that we don’t support all of the spending and entitlements.
This is no time for him to be cozying up to the democrats. President Bush has the bully pulpit and he doesn’t need to cave in to the liberal democrat agenda.
The bottom line is, it’s up to our elected officials to sound and act like conservatives.
And it’s up to us to turn out and vote for them
We can win. It’s up to us.
Now let’s get back to work.
Let’s win the next one for the troops and they in turn will win the war on terror for us.
And one final thought, we can always count on the liberals to be liberals, which makes it so much easier to win elections!
My thanks to all the troops who are so valiantly and courageously fighting so I have the right to right this blog.
And my thanks to Rush Limbaugh for inspiring me to write this post.
And thank you LORD, for having mercy on and blessing America!
